Northwest Alkmaar uses six beds for intensive monitoring of lung patients

Six monitored beds were put into use in the lung department of the Northwest hospital in Alkmaar this week. According to the hospital, lung patients who need complex care do not have to go to intensive care because of this addition, and nurses can respond more quickly in acute situations.

Patients who receive oxygen therapy are usually in the ICU, even though this is not really necessary for everyone. The new beds are for them. This way they do not have to move to the IC and the nurses are close by if problems arise. They receive a signal via a mobile device if the oxygen level and respiratory rate of a patient deviate from the required value.

During the corona pandemic, the number of patients requiring oxygen therapy has increased significantly. According to the hospital, the new beds ensure that both the nurses in the lung ward and the IC are relieved, and that care can be classified as efficiently as possible.
