Golfers Loran Appel and Lynn van der Sluijs have won the prestigious Trompbeker. On the course of the North Netherlands Golf & Country Club in Glimmen, they clearly dominated the competition.
The tournament for players up to the age of 21 has been linked to the Dutch stroke play championship since 1996. The competition, played over three days and four rounds of eighteen holes, has some well-known winners, such as Joost Luiten, Reinier Saxton and Darius van Driel. Among the women, Olympian Anne van Dam was once the best.
The 2023 edition was won by Loran Appel in the men’s race. He was the only player to stay under par (-1) during Whitsun weekend. With that he was five strokes ahead of the young Abel Derksen.
Lynn van der Sluijs won with the girls. She ended with +9 and needed three strokes less than number two Noa van Beek.
The northerners played a supporting role in the battle for the Trompbeker. Only Koen Friezema (11th in +14) and Kian de Roo (16th in +19) made the cut and also hit the track on Monday.
