Holstein Kiel achieved a narrow away win at the beginning of the 21st match day of the 2nd Bundesliga. The “Storks” won 3-2 (2-0) at Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday evening.
After the final whistle of a thrilling game, which Holstein won thanks to goals from Fabian Reese, Holmbert Fridjonsson and Timo Becker, the players of both teams clashed briefly on the pitch. The people of Braunschweig were not only deeply disappointed. Some also felt disadvantaged, such as Jasmin Fejzic. “I don’t know what we just did, that the referees put us at a disadvantage,” the keeper told NDR.
“Before the second goal, Manuel Wintzheimer was clearly fouled. I ask the referee if he doesn’t want to take a look and then I get a yellow card.” It was similar against Darmstadt, according to Fejzic: “But we are only the small Eintracht Braunschweig – you can do that with us.”
In any case, the goals from Maurice Multhaup and Danilo Wiebe were not enough for the BTSV to win a point. The fighting strong, never giving up climber suffered a setback in the fight for relegation. On the other hand, Kiel went up to seventh place in the table, at least temporarily, with 31 points.
Kiel’s Reese was extremely satisfied with the team’s performance – and also with himself. “God scored, made an assist, initiated the other goal, had a chance to head the ball – I would almost give myself a 1 offensively,” said the offensive player after his 150th second division game the NDR.
Reese and Fridjonsson score for Holstein
Braunschweig started the game very promising. After preparatory work by Anton Donker, Anthony Ujah narrowly missed the ball in the penalty area (9′). But that was it for the time being with the “lions” – the “storks” took over the command. And they turned out to be pretty uncompromising when the opportunity presented itself. However, the defense of Lower Saxony also played their part in the opening goal for the guests. A cross from the right flank by Philipp Sander went through two Eintracht defenders – behind them Reese completed the 1-0 for KSV (14th).
For Braunschweig it was an effective hit. Kiel was now clearly decisive and could have increased through Steven Skrzybski (17th) and Sander (19th). Holmbert Fridjonsson did it a little later. Eintracht keeper Jasmin Fejzic was able to parry a shot from Skrzybski, but he was powerless when the Icelander shot the ball and Holstein led 2-0 (22nd). Kiel rested a little too much on the lead in the ensuing period and that brought the hosts back into the game. They closed in on the Schleswig-Holstein goal for the remainder of the first half, but weren’t able to create a real chance before the break.
Becker increases to 3-0 for Kiel
Eintracht coach Michael Schiele made three changes before the start of the second half: Multhaup, Robin Krauße and Lion Lauberbach came on for Jan-Hendrik Marx, Keita Endo and Ujah. Only: The spirit of optimism was quickly gone. Kiel made sure of that – with the third goal. It was created by an exemplary counterattack. After a throw-in by the “Löwen”, the guests won the ball in their own penalty area and then things went very quickly. After a sprint on the left wing, Reese showed a good overview and crossed into Timo Becker’s run, who coolly overcame Fejzic (48th).
Eintracht fights to 2: 3, but more is not possible
Was that it? No, because Eintracht soon answered. “Joker” Multhaup simply took a shot from 18 meters and scored to make it 1:3 (57th). Rapp reacted, substituting the veterans Alexander Mühling and Lewis Holtby (60′). But this measure did not bring much stability to the game of the guests. Eintracht pushed hard and even reduced the lead to 2:3 (70′) through Wiebe, goalkeeper Fejzic prevented another Reese goal with a brilliant act (77′). The Lower Saxony tried everything again, but the equalization was no longer possible.
