North Korea refused to participate in the Beijing Olympics because of “hostile forces” – RBK

North Korea will not participate in the 2022 Winter Olympics in China due to “hostile forces” and the coronavirus pandemic. This is stated in a letter sent by the North Korean Olympic Committee to its Chinese counterparts, the Central Telegraph Agency of Korea (CTAC) reports.

“We will not be able to participate in the Games due to the actions of hostile forces and the global coronavirus pandemic, but we will fully support and support all the projects of our Chinese comrades in preparing a grand and wonderful Olympic holiday,” the DPRK said in a statement.

In early September last year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) disqualified North Korea by the end of 2022 for skipping competitions in Tokyo in the summer of 2021. “They violated [Олимпийскую] charter, have not fulfilled their duties, “- said IOC President Thomas Bach during a press conference.

European Parliament calls for “total boycott” of the Olympics in China

The Beijing Olympics will be held from 4 to 20 February 2022, a number of countries have already announced a diplomatic boycott of the competition. So, in early December last year, the United States announced that it would not send official representatives to the Olympics, but American athletes would receive 100% support from home. The reason for such a measure was the massive repression in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region against the Muslim Uyghurs, Western countries accuse Beijing of organizing them.
