North Korea fired three ballistic missiles local time on Saturday morning, according to the South Korean military. That reports news agency Reuters. North Korea has already fired at least 70 ballistic missiles this year.
The Japanese Coast Guard also reported missiles that ended up in the sea east of the Korean peninsula. It is unclear whether these are the same missiles. North Korea itself has not yet disclosed anything about the reported launches.
North Korea has fired a record number of ballistic missiles this year. In October, a ballistic missile flew over the Japanese mainland for the first time, forcing residents of northeastern Japan to evacuate for the first time in five years. The missile eventually landed on the other side of Japan in the Pacific Ocean, about 3,000 kilometers from the coast.
Despite sanctions from the international community, North Korea continues to test.
