A 68-year-old North Hollander died in Portugal last Monday when he was hit by a passenger car on his bicycle. His 71-year-old wife drove next to him and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. That reports the Portuguese medium Radio Campanario.
It is still unclear what exactly happened. The couple was hit on the EM 1085, which is located in the Setúbal district, around 3.30 pm. Firefighters and officers attended the accident.
It was soon clear to the officers that the man had not survived the accident. His wife was taken to hospital in Santiago do Cacém with serious injuries. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms the accident and does not want to say anything further about exactly where the two North Hollanders come from. According to a spokesperson, the family is consularly assisted by the Dutch embassy.
