Earlier this season, AZ defeated its neighbor from the capital 2-1. The last time both teams faced each other in the cup tournament was on March 3, 2022. It was a semi-final and Ajax won in Alkmaar thanks to goals from Steven Berghuis and Davy Klaassen.
