Norg’s dragon is back on base in one piece

A striking sight today in Norg. The stolen dragon in the cage that normally stands on the green will be put back in its place this afternoon.

New Year’s Eve association Tied Zat from Zorgvlied, Wateren and Oude Willem had borrowed the image for their New Year’s Eve stunt. Every year the association makes a statement by stealing a familiar object. In previous years, for example, a whispering dish from the Melkwegpad in Hooghalen was taken to Zorgvlied to draw attention to the poor range and reception in the villages.

This year it is the dragon in the cage from Norg who has to suffer. The artwork, officially called ‘Edging the Boundary’, was made by Wessel de Ruijter and is said to symbolize the imprisonment of the devil to protect the inhabitants of Norg. “Did we accidentally take the devil?” Marten Brak from Tied Zat has to laugh. “Well, luckily it didn’t do any devilish pranks in Zorgvlied.”

Tied Zat gives a different twist to the image. They feel trapped as an association. “The rules of Natura 2000 areas restrict everything. As a New Year’s Eve association, we can no longer organize events, nor can other organizations around us. And we wanted to make a statement about that.”
