Sporting goal open
Havard Nordtveit is making his plan come true and will be leaving TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the summer after five years. The Kraichgauer announced this officially on Monday. The 31-year-old defender has been thrown back by injuries in recent years, which, according to director professional footballer Alexander Rosen, have made it difficult for him to play an even more important role on the pitch.
“Howie is an outstanding personality, an absolute team player and a generally positive character. He has an enormous wealth of experience and has played an important role in our team structure in recent years. He was always a strong role model and wise advisor, especially for our young talents,” said Rosen. “He also has a keen sense of the atmosphere in the dressing room and, with his unifying nature, makes a fundamental contribution to a good and performance-oriented atmosphere in our team. For the coaching team and me, too, he was always an important and reliable contact who will leave a real gap.”

Nordtveit had already let it be known in February 2020 that he would be moving back to his home country of Norway in 2022 – when his contract expired – so that he could be closer to his family. “I’ve always said to myself that I don’t want to blame myself for doing anything differently. I’ve always given everything and I think I’ve got the maximum out of my career. When I look back now, I can say that it was a great time,” the veteran explained to TSG magazine “Spielfeld”.
Nordtveit wants a “very good” end to the season with TSG Hoffenheim
“We still have a few important weeks ahead of us together. We want to focus sharply to turn what is already a good season into a very good one. How things will continue for me in terms of sport then remains to be seen,” continued the right-footed player. He made the most games of his career for Borussia Mönchengladbach (187). In 2017, Nordtveit switched from West Ham United to Hoffenheim for 8 million euros and, interrupted by a six-month loan to Fulham, played a total of 71 competitive games for the Bundesliga club.
