With a strong jump, combiner Julian Schmid has created a good chance of the first German podium of the World Cup winter. The strong runner at the World Championships flew 130.0 m in Lillehammer and is eighth in the cross-country skiing over 10 km (11.30 a.m./ZDF and Eurosport), 1:37 minutes behind the clearly leading Norwegian Jarl Magnus Riiber. The gap to third place is only 37 seconds.
Terence Weber (Geyer/+1:19) starts in sixth place ahead of Schmid, but Schmid is significantly stronger on the cross-country ski trail. However, Manuel Faißt (Baiersbronn/+2:36) and Johannes Rydzek (Oberstdorf/+2:38) are waiting to catch up from positions 19 and 20.
Local hero Riiber sailed to 141.0 m with less start-up, his lead over former world champion Johannes Lamparter (Austria) is an impressive 55 seconds. This means that Riiber’s 61st victory of his career and his fourth of the winter should not be taken away from him.
