Exuberant cheers at Selina Freitag. The ski jumper from the SG Nickelhütte Aue stayed cool at the Nordic Ski World Cup in the individual final and got silver. Slovenin Nika Prevc, who had traveled as a top favorite, also showed no nerves and her great class. The deserved reward: the gold medal. Bronze went to local hero Anna Odine Stroem. Agnes Reisch landed in the top ten.

It was not a good day for defending champion Katharina Schmid. The 28-year-old from SC Oberstdorf could not intervene in the fight for precious metal on the ski jump in Trondheim and disappointed as 19.

Prevc started as a top favorite

The roles were clearly distributed. As a top favorite, Prevc, who was able to win the last six World Cup competitions, went onto the hill. During the course of the season, Katharina Schmid and Selina Freitag, who were in places in the overall World Cup behind the Slovenin, brought two and three when strong competitors brought into play for podium places. Friday had stood on the podium throughout the last five World Cups and had ended up four times in a row as second behind the Slovenin.

Friday provides Prevc leads

But the World Cup writes its own stories. Only the currently best German starter could deliver. With 99 meters, Selina convinced Friday in the first round and gave hope for a medal. The Canadian Alexandria Loutit was the same as her third place with her. Nika Prevc had conquered the lead with the best point yield in front of Norwegian Anna Odine Stroem.

While Loutite showed nerves, Friday pulled confidently over Dern Bakken. 103.5 meters were certainly enough for a medal. Since Stroem only jumped to 96.5 meters, silver was safe. Only Prevc was unable to beat. The Slovenin secured gold with her 100-meter jump.

Reisch in top ten, Schmid disappointed

Defending champion Katharina Schmid, on the other hand, struggled and did not find her rhythm on the ski jump. At 90 meters she was 14th away from the podium course. Even the second attempt (86.5m) did not easily get off the Bakken to the Oberstdorf woman. In total, this was only enough for 19th place.

Teammate Agnes Reisch had no good start into the competition at 92 meters. The 25-year-old from the Allgäu initially lined up as 13. In contrast to Schmid, but did not slip away, but made three places well with a set of 99 meters.

The competition, however, was disappointing for Juliane Seyfarth. “Not what I wanted“, said Sey trip.

Görlich travels injured

For Luisa Görlich, the World Cup ended after a fall in landing before the first competition. “At the moment her is fine,” said DSV team doctor Florian Porzig. He “Stand from a serious injury in your right knee“, said DSV team doctor Florian Porzig. The 26-year-old was probably seriously injured by the knee again and will fly back to Germany promptly. Porzig did not want to rule out a cruciate ligament tear. The exact diagnosis should follow after an MRI recording.”After the magnetic spin examination, we decide on the further treatment“, so Porzig.
