The Austrian Lamparter narrowly wins in a duel with Oftebro. With fourth place, Schmid is not rewarded for his strong race to catch up.
The winner of the show-jumping, Ryota Yamamoto, decided not to start in the cross-country because his health is not good. So the Austrian duo, Mario Seidl and Johannes Lamparter, was the first to hit the track. Fourth after the first round, Yoshito Watabe, caught up with the duo. Together they initially led the field.
The pursuers, which also included Julian Schmid and the Norwegian Jens Luraas Oftebro, were getting closer and closer from behind. After just 2.5 kilometers Schmid was only 20 seconds behind the leader Lamparter, at the start it was more than half a second.
The Austrian Seidl was not able to keep up with the pace at the front in the long run, he had to let go and fell back significantly in the field. From now on it was a duel between Lamparter and Oftebro for victory, which was only decided on the last lap. In the end, the 21-year-old Lamparter narrowly prevailed, for him it is already his seventh win of the season.
Schmid from nine to four
Julian Schmid, ninth after the jump, managed to catch up at the home World Cup: He was in third place for a while, but then had to admit defeat to Frenchman Laurent Muhlethaler on the final lap and finished fourth. “It’s a bit bitter. It was still a decent competition,” said the 23-year-old from Oberstdorf after the last race before the World Cup on ZDF.
Fabian Rießle and Jakob Lange were 11th at the same time. Terence Weber fell back on the cross-country ski run and ended up 16th, David Mach finished the race in 22nd, Wendelin Thannheimer in 25th place. Pirmin Maier missed the top 30 in 37th.
