Noordenveld’s most dangerous road overhauled: stopgap measures or a thorough approach?

35 registered accidents, four of which were fatal, in just ten years. These are the painful figures of the Zevenhuisterweg in Nieuw-Roden. A road with a length of only two kilometers, but one with a bad reputation. The municipality of Noordenveld is now making plans to have the road redesigned, although some residents are critical of the proposed measures.

Google ‘Zevenhuisterweg’, scroll down and the photos and videos of cars against trees will come to you. It is not without reason that the road between Nieuw-Roden, Roden and Zevenhuizen (Gr.) is in the top 3 of ‘most dangerous roads in Drenthe’.

At least, that’s what traffic experts from BonoTraffics say. This traffic consultancy firm from Kampen, Overijsselse, has been asked by the municipality of Noordenveld to look at reorganizing the road.

The conclusions drawn by the agency about the Zevenhuisterweg are well-known observations for local residents. Trees are close to the road, there is a long straight stretch that invites you to drive fast, while a little later the road is very curvy. Moreover, it is sometimes unclear to motorists where they are allowed to drive thirty, fifty or sixty kilometers per hour.
