– Life is not fair, and not especially sports. But you have to accept these moments. Fortunately, this is a long season ahead. What is given in the back pack in June is then taken in the front pack in August.

So he says Nooralotta Neziri29, sound in presses.

– I have traveled all over the world without any problems. Then I came home to rest for a while and hit Korona.

The virus swept into the body last week despite three vaccines.

– The first mild symptoms came last Thursday night. I trained just fine on Friday, but it felt weird on Saturday. There was no ambiguity left about the home test: it was strongly positive.

The runner does not have a fever, but the general well-being is mild. The Espoo GP race will be missed on Wednesday.

– I was already going in a better direction, but now I would say this is a harder flu than normal.

Chronic grief

In the second week at the Lahti GP, the Finn stopped after the first round when his left heel was symptomatic.

– In hindsight, I was really down when I was injured in a strenuous leg. Why was I in the race at all, then the heel was pretty calmed down. For some reason, it started to feel great in Lahti. It had to be stated after the initial round that the foot came off the lower leg that it didn’t make sense here.

It is a chronic inflammation of the heel sac. The first symptoms were last fall, but for the most part the training season went without pain. On May 11, Neziri ran the 150-meter race, which he describes as successful. The clock stopped at 17.61.

After that, the trouble started.

The spike is not the best work shoe for a heel problem.

– Everything that has been invented has been tried. The ankles have been kept open and the calves open. Cold therapy, electrotherapy and cortisone have been given. The idea has been to make my leg so painless that I can pull the European Championships.

In the 2019 season, Nezir had a similar problem in the right heel.

– My feet are prone to such injuries.

Back fit

Last season, the athlete suffered from a lower back strain fracture.

– The back has not been symptomatic at all, and there were no muscle injuries during the basic training period, Neziri says.

– The heel pain is much worse than last season’s strain fracture, although that back injury sounds more severe, he continues.

The World Cup results limit and the collection of ranking points will end on Midsummer.

– If you apply for a pose, there is time for the European Championships. I haven’t thrown it all in the rubbish bin yet, and I won’t even have Paavo Nurmi Games next Tuesday. Keep one day at a time now to go.

The results for the European Championships must be hit by the last week of July.

– Last summer ran reasonably well. But take this really hard when it’s gone differently than planned. Yes, this is the worst possible time window for the corona, but you have to think that this is the purpose too: the heel is now allowed to recover longer.
