Giuseppe arrives in the neighborhood a few days after Pasquale’s murder, a boy who had taken a bad path. Mother Concetta wants the funeral to take place in church, but usually when there is a murder the service is held directly in the cemetery. Giuseppe doesn’t want to submit to the bosses’ rules. It is his first turning point that neighborhood that seems made to surrender, where people are wary and barely say hello.
The priest decides, despite the threats, to carry out the ceremony in Piazza della Sanità. «Every inch of our neighborhood will be a church», says Santoro. The community finds the impetus to gather around the courageous parish priest.
