It’s the key prop of one of the most toxic breakups in music history: Noel Gallagher’s destroyed guitar from Oasis’ breakup night is up for auction on May 17th. The starting price is the equivalent of around 150,000 euros, but the auctioneers expect sales of up to half a million euros. The auction will be carried out by Artpèges gallery. According to Arthur Perault, Noel Gallagher had had his electric guitar repaired in the meantime – but then made the decision to part with it “because it reminded him too much of Oasis”.

The Paris Guitar Throw

On August 28, 2009, the band was supposed to headline the Paris festival “Rock en Seine”. However, just a few minutes before the planned performance, the Gallaghers clashed so violently that the concert was cancelled. Noel’s version of the story goes like this: Liam initially threw plums at him; then with Noel’s own instrument – a red Gibson ES-355. In other versions, Noel destroyed his guitar himself during the feud. Be that as it may, one of the biggest bands in British rock broke up with her.

Noel: “I didn’t feel any sense of relief”

After the clinch, Noel stormed out of the backstage and got into a cab. Still in the back seat he decided the end of the band: “The driver drove off and that was it. I didn’t feel any sense of relief because I knew a shitstorm was coming. A lot of nonsense would be said about it,” the Brit once said. He didn’t make the decision lightly: “It was my life, I managed it and creatively it was my thing. In retrospect, it was the best thing for me and the band.” In the end, people only came to Oasis concerts to hear the hits from days gone by, “and that’s a position I never see the band in wanted to. But now we are mentioned in the same breath as all the big ones,” said the 54-year-old.

To this day, the brother dispute smolders

According to their own legend, the two brothers have never seen each other since that fateful night. There are rumors of a reunion about the band. Currently there are no signs that the famous Manchester sons are burying the battle axe. in one Interview with the “Sunday Times” Liam blamed his big brother for that. “If he really wanted to have contact, for the sake of my mother, he could do it, but obviously he doesn’t want to,” says the musician.
