Nevertheless, he likes to tease his buddy and even brags about Springsteen selfies.
Noel Gallagher loves to be asked for his opinion. And now he was allowed to comment on his friendship with Bono in an interview – of course he didn’t keep his opinion of the U2 singer behind the mountain. “He gets a lot of criticism but I fucking love him,” the former Oasis band member says of his longtime pal. But the conversation wasn’t entirely without teasing…
In an interview with Shuffle, Gallagher recalled meeting Bruce Springsteen by chance in Ibiza. The holiday encounter ended in an afternoon the two spent together, deciding to make Bono jealous by sharing what a good time they were having: “We were sitting at this long table, had a few bottles of wine and there was food everywhere, and we took selfies with each other, and [Springsteen] said, ‘Shall we ruin Bono’s day?’ And we sent him a selfie of us.” The photo had the desired effect and Bono resented his absence, his wife later told Gallagher. A circumstance that actually amused Noel Gallagher a bit.
Noel Gallagher also described Bono as “one of his closest friends” and fondly recalled the time he toured with U2: “I toured with him and you know what’s amazing about U2? Usually, when a band reaches that level, the entire operation is run by Americans. U2 is all Irish, all of them. There’s about 300 Irish guys on the tour, it’s amazing.”
On August 30th, Noel Gallagher will play with his band High Flying Birds in Hull, UK before headlining Sheffield’s Rock N Roll Circus on September 1st.
