Nobel Prize winner Feringa is doing tests at De Nieuwe Veste in Coevorden

This afternoon it was up to the students of De Nieuwe Veste to ask Feringa questions during a College Tour setting in the school hall. Then, under the watchful eye of Feringa and his students, they did experiments in the laboratory room. Teacher Ton Soppe is proud that the Nobel Prize winner is visiting the school: “But students were also excited to ask him a question. Ultimately, I think they learned a lot from it. The message is: there are opportunities for everyone, whether you vmbo, or havo or vwo. It’s about being enthusiastic, curious and ambitious.”

And that is precisely Feringa’s intention: “I did not come here to win souls for chemistry, but precisely to make students realize that they can learn a lot in secondary school. Be curious. I try to pass that on because that’s the foundation for the rest of your life.”
