Because of the new exhibition in the Drents Museum, Under the spell of Ararat – Treasures of ancient Armenia, there will be a replica of Noah’s Ark on the Brink in the coming months. The exhibition, which tells the story of this 5,000-meter-high mountain from ancient Armenia, will be on view from 11 May. About 160 archaeological objects are on display.
Noah’s Ark is part of this exhibition. “The Ararat is a mountain that you can see from all sides in Armenia. According to tradition, Noah’s Ark once ran aground on it,” say Nicolai and Maxim Romashuk of the Armenia Foundation from Assen. “If there is an exhibition about it, then the Ark has to be there.”
According to the duo, the museum pieces of the exhibition have never been to the Netherlands before, so a visit to the Drents Museum is definitely worth it. “A relic from Noah’s Ark is the highlight of the exhibition. A real masterpiece. And we know it really is a relic because it has been researched and historians agree that it is one.”
For other eye-catchers who come to Assen, a place at the head of the Vaart is often chosen. However, the Ark is on the Brink. According to the Armenian brothers a very good alternative. “This is a beautiful place with terraces around it, there is really no better place.”
Visitors who would like to take a look inside the Ark can also enter the ship. “You can really go in, and there are also three boards with information about a treasure hunt, the exhibition and our project”, the Armenians refer to their foundation.
