Rod Stewart has declined to perform at the Qatar World Cup. On Sunday (November 13th) an interview with the British in “The Times” published, in which he spoke about it and also commented on the Ukraine war.
When asked if he would support England at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar as Scotland ultimately failed to qualify, the 77-year-old Briton replied: “No, Brazil!”. The London-born singer’s parents were from Scotland. Noting that it might be better not to watch the entire World Cup, he agreed: “I’m telling you, fans have to be careful, right?” The interviewer joked about Stewart singing the song “The Killing of Georgie ‘, which is about the murder of Rod Stewart’s gay friend in the 1970s, could have been performed in Qatar. “That would have been good,” he replied, adding, “In fact, 15 months ago I was offered a lot of money to play there. Over a million dollars (around 972,000 euros). But I declined. It just wouldn’t be right to be there.”
Rod Stewart then reported how he personally filled some potholes near his house in March. On the one hand because he would have had difficulties driving his Ferrari along there – but also an ambulance, which is said to have got stuck because of the potholes. The conversation then turned to the Ukraine war and how Stewart, as a celebrity, can influence the situation of the Ukrainians: “I am a knight. You will be knighted for what you have done,” the singer said. Sir Rod Stewart was knighted in June 2016Order of the British Empire”, also known as CBE, fHonored for his musical and charitable achievements. The knight said he rented a house for a family of seven from Ukraine and got two of them jobs. “I thought if I did this publicly, maybe others would too. Mick Jagger maybe.”
