Jan Slagter, the boss of Omroep MAX, thinks what Gordon said in Beau van Erven Dorens’ program is below the belt. “That wasn’t very wise.”
If even the director of the shelter for pathetic TV hedgehogs criticizes you, then your chances are really gone at the Media Park. Jan Slagter, the boss of Omroep MAX, believes that Gordon behaved below the belt during his interview with Beau van Erven Dorens. Painful, because Jan granted him a musical TV comeback at Christmas.
Below the belt
Gordon more or less accused his ex-boyfriend Gavin Rozario of schizophrenia in conversation with Beau, and subtly noted that his brother, who committed suicide, also had it. Many people cannot believe that you want to go so low to get your weight, and Angela de Jong also gave him an old-fashioned hard blow.
Rightly so, says Jan. He thinks the statements are unacceptable. “What he said about Gavin. That was not very wise to connect that to a brother of his who has died and… Yes, you know, I didn’t think that was very smart,” he responds in The Orange Winter.
Not critical
However, Jan does not agree with the massive criticism of Beau, which Gordon uncritically deflated. “I have not seen it. A very small piece. I’ve read a lot about it. Yes, there are now a lot of people saying that Beau was not critical enough, that it was not an in-depth interview.”
He continues: “But on the other hand: it is a feel-good program, like: we’re going to have a drink, we’re going to eat something. Whether you can expect Beau to say that it really should have been an in-depth interview…”
Pathetic man
Hostess Hélène Hendriks then asks the most important question: “Did Gordon do well, do you think?”
Jan: “I honestly don’t think so.”
Sidekick Jack van Gelder especially feels sorry for Gordon. “With Gordon you never know when it’s acting and when it’s real. Whether he’s acting or being like that, he’s basically a sad man who has been looking for happiness all his life and chasing after it and has had all kinds of setbacks. I found it quite disarming.”
