As rival supporters made increasingly funny comments about it, Georges-Louis Bouchez has responded. “No, we have not changed the Francs Borains logo to put an image with my face on it,” said the chairman of MR and the big boss at the football club from 1B, through his spokesperson in a response to the Sudpresse newspapers. .
Bouchez took over Francs Borains, which managed to achieve promotion to 1B and elite football last season, in 2020. A year later, the logo of the club from the Borinage region, founded in 1921, suddenly changed. Until then, the club, which had changed its name after the merger between Sporting Club Boussu-Bois and FC Élougeois, had as its logo, in addition to an image of a lion, also that of a phoenix rising from its ashes. On the Francs Borains website you can read that the current logo contains an image of Clovis, the first king of the Franks.
“Because he was born in Tournai, close to the Borinage,” is the explanation on the website. “And especially because there was a certain Clovis, a former miner, who was once a very popular player and then a trainer at Élouges. The Clovis has been on our logo since the 1980s, when the team reached the semi-finals of the Belgian Cup. His return should be seen as a kind of tribute to that achievement and to the roots of the club.”
The current CEO of Royal Frans Borains, Pascal Scime, also clarified. “Any similarity to facts and existing persons is therefore purely based on coincidence.”
No tattoo of Clovis for Bouchez, he says. He has been a fan of PSG and Racing Genk since his youth. The latter because she has the same miner roots as Francs Borains and because he considers them an example for his club.
