No test despite play -free: Eintracht Braunschweig did not start any additional game during the international break. Trainer Heiner Backhaus explains the decision.
Many clubs from the 2nd Bundesliga used the past international break for tests. SV Darmstadt 98 – the upcoming opponent of Eintracht Braunschweig. The “lilies” fought a wild exchange of blows against third division team Waldhof Mannheim. The game ended 5: 5. Despite the game -free weekend, Eintracht waived an additional game.
BTSV coach Heiner Backhaus explained the reason for the press conference before the game in Darmstadt on Saturday (kick-off: 1 p.m.). “We just wanted to regenerate because we have already had a brutal week behind us with the cup game,” said the coach with a view of the English week at the end of August. The Eintracht had to go over 120 minutes against defending champion VfB Stuttgart on a Tuesday – and finally lost 7: 8 in a penalty shootout. Four days later, the BTSV won a 1-1 win against Arminia Bielefeld.
“The intensity we drove was extremely high,” said Backhaus in retrospect. Now you wanted to use the game -free days to work on tactical matters. “This is easier if you don’t work for a game if you can also drive through red in the stress control,” said the coach. “We did that.”
The respect for the opponent, who is tied to eintracht in sixth place, is there despite the ordinary start of the season with seven points from four league games. “We are now playing against a team that is certainly one of the top favorites in the 2nd league,” said Backhaus, who knows: “You will present us with massive challenges.”
However, he sees himself “best as possible” for the game against the “lilies”. “We have developed further. We want to bring that into the game.” For the first time, newcomers Florian Flick, who switched to Braunschweig from 1. FC Nürnberg to Braunschweig, could also contribute against Darmstadt.
According to Backhaus, the defensive midfielder is already a serious option for the game in Darmstadt. “It fits wonderfully into this group,” said the BTSV coach. “When we saw him, we thought: ‘WoW, Nuremberg must be good to give up such a player’. He immediately showed what he can do in the training sessions. He is very passable, has a good spatial feeling, coaches well and is certainly also a candidate who could start.”
