The more than 21-meter statue depicting Argentine star Lionel Messi has had to be moved away from public view in India, reports BBC.

The monument, which was erected in December, attracted attention in May when it was found to be swaying alarmingly in the wind. According to local media, residents of the area filed complaints, after which it was decided to inspect the statue.

The inspection revealed that the structural stability of the statue made of fiberglass and iron had weakened significantly. According to the authorities, the security risk was so great that the monument was ordered to be removed immediately.

Moving the statue was not a simple operation as it was located along a busy road.

So far, it is not known whether the statue will later be returned to its place or what its final fate will be.

The statue was erected as part of Messi’s Goat India Tour 2025. Goat comes from the English expression “Greatest of all time”, which refers to the best of all time.
