The German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) failed with its application for the 2029 World Cup. At the annual general assembly of the ITTF World Association in Doha, Berlin did not get enough votes as the venue and was eliminated early in the election.
Two days after the end of the World Cup in Qatar, Rio de Janeiro was awarded the contract. China with a city that has not yet been named and the American San José were also available.
The tournaments in 2027 and 2028 were also awarded: the 2027 World Cup takes place in Astana, the Kazakh capital prevailed against Montpellier and San José. Fukuoka/Japan was the only candidate to choose from for 2028.
The last World Cup in Germany so far took place in Düsseldorf in 2017.
