No solar park at Hollandscheveld due to lack of support

There will be no solar park between the A37 and Wilfred Stillweg near Hollandscheveld. Initiator Emission Projects wanted to create a park of 2.5 hectares. A majority in the city council of Hoogeveen decided to vote against this evening because of a lack of support.

And that is precisely one of the conditions for realizing the solar park. But many local residents do not like the arrival of the park at all. The distance between the solar panels and the houses is very small.

That could cause problems according to local residents, council members and the Hoogeveen council. “The arrival of a solar park has a huge impact on the quality of life of these people,” says council member Koen Meesters of the ChristenUnie. “The social interest of generating solar energy should not be given priority in this case.”

He was not the only one who was negative about the solar park. A total of 22 people on the council voted against the plans. Five people were in favour. “Hopefully the tensions among the local residents will disappear soon,” said Ronald Klok of the VVD.

Council member Jeroen Pomper of the SP says it was a difficult choice for the party. “We are open to listening to both parties, but we notice that support is too low. And that is very important with these plans. That is why we are voting against.”

The initiator has still tried to come to an agreement with the residents. In the end, that led to nothing.
