TV presenter Dina Tersago (43) said in ‘De Ideale Wereld’ on Canvas that Sinterklaas did not visit her sons (7 and 5 years) last year because ‘they were not good’. A discussion ensued as to whether that is the ideal way to punish children. Tersago is now responding itself. “They have not suffered any trauma,” she says convincingly.

“Everyone asks me if it was a joke, but it was real,” Tersago said. “You have to know who you can and cannot do that with. I have two children who can handle quite a bit. It had been a few weeks that they really didn’t want to listen. I had informed them that Sinterklaas only comes if you are brave. I had already repeated that two or three times, but they kept hanging out. I really had to be consistent.”
“A letter has followed. It said that if they still did their best, maybe Sinterklaas would leave the packages with mom for Christmas,” says Tersago. In the end, the presenter put the packages under the Christmas tree. “My children have not suffered any trauma. They are two wild boys. They thought: ‘Sinterklaas always comes’. But I thought otherwise. I wanted them to feel that. They were quiet for a moment. They did get chocolate and were happy with it.”
The boys paused for a moment. Tersago doesn’t want kids who think it’s normal for them to have everything. “I had my son call St. There is an app in which he gives canned answers. My son was then told a standard answer that the Saint could not help him any further.”
