No second Champions Cup for Amsterdam Pirates after an exciting final

The baseball players of Amsterdam Pirates failed to win the Champions Cup. In an exciting final, reigning champion Parma was just too strong: 7-6.

Amsterdam Pirates had won 12-4 against the Italian champion in the group stage. As a result, the team of coach Ronald Jaarsma was the favorite to take the cup home.

The team from Amsterdam also took the lead in Bonn, Germany. Two homeruns by Denzel Richardson and scores by Sharlon Schoop, Kalian Sams and Tommy van de Sanden made it 6-4 after six innings.

Parma proved strong in the final phase, as it became 6-5 in the seventh inning and moments later the score was even 6-7. The ninth and final inning produced no runs, meaning the Pirates had to settle for second place for the second time in the last three editions. In 2016, the Champions Cup went to Amsterdam.
