There will be no scheduled hearing on new policy regarding coffee shops in Hoogeveen. CDA, ChristenUnie and SGP withdrew the request on Thursday evening under pressure from a political majority.
The three Christian parties, who do not see any interest in the arrival of a coffee shop in Hoogeveen, wanted to convene a hearing prior to the decision-making on January 18 with, among others, the Salvation Army, addiction care, secondary schools, retailers, police and experts by experience.
Effects
The aim of the meeting was to highlight the possible effects of the new coffee shop policy on Hoogeveen society and to offer organizations the opportunity to share their experiences. So that council members are as well informed as possible in advance.
VVD, D66, PvdA, SP and Gemeentebelangen did not like this. The action of the Christian parties was seen as a delaying tactic. According to the five, a delegation from the council was informed in July by the police, GGD and Addiction Care North Netherlands (VNN) about the advantages and disadvantages of a coffee shop.
The council also made a working visit to Groningen in September and held a public information round during a council meeting on October 5. Information from the Police, GGD and VNN was also shared.
Motion
To put pressure on maintaining the original timetable, a council majority had a motion ready. But it did not have to be introduced. The debate will therefore take place on December 21 and the decision will be made on January 18, 2024.
