No rush at the depot for removed bicycles yet | 1Limburg

As expected, there is not yet a storm at the bicycle depot in Maastricht. So far, 98 bicycles and 9 scooters have been collected that have been removed from the streets of the city due to King’s Day.

In total, about 500 bicycles were removed in the run-up to King’s Day. In addition to bicycles and scooters, traffic signs have also been (temporarily) removed in the city, because they would otherwise stand in the way of the royal route.

500 bicycles
Last Friday, special investigating officers (boas) behind the Comedie started the cleaning action. That was necessary because the NOS had to build up there. Not only have student bicycles been collected, but also some electric bicycles. People can pick up their bicycle free of charge until 15 June. They must then bring a key to the lock and proof of identity.

Second Life
Boa Rick van den Boorn thinks that many bicycles are not collected. “That’s the experience of the last 15 years. About 60 percent of the bikes stay here,” he told L1. “Eventually they go to the cycle, for example, and get a second life there.”

“We have tried to make it as easy as possible to find your bicycle with signs. For example, they contain the street name and date with where and when the bicycle was removed. So we can give an indication of where the bicycle could be, but it is always a good search,” says Van den Boorn.
