No punishment after the cup copy theft at Großkreutz

Dortmund (dpa) – The theft of a copy of the DFB Cup from the Dortmund pub by ex-world champion Kevin Großkreutz has no consequences for the perpetrators.

The public prosecutor’s office has stopped the investigation into four football fans from Ingolstadt due to insignificance. That said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office when asked by dpa.

The four Ingolstadt residents (21 to 27 years old) celebrated their club’s defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Cup in the Grosskreutz pub in October. The copy of the DFB Cup was passed from fan to fan for photos that evening. When the pub closed, according to police investigations, the people of Ingolstadt secretly took the trophy with them and got into a taxi. They were caught a little later by the police.

The alleged prank led to investigations into theft – even if Großkreutz’s business partner, with whom he runs the pub, had already said at the time: “I don’t think the boys should be cracked.” In fact, that’s how it happened. According to the spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office, the proceedings had already been discontinued a few weeks ago.
