“What would be really fair is difficult to answer.”

National player Lukas Nmecha on “Equal Pay”

Since then, the German football scene has been discussing the sense and nonsense of a premium adjustment under the heading “Equal Pay”. Lukas Nmecha sees the discussion differently: “It’s difficult to answer what would really be fair,” says the international from VfL Wolfsburg to t-online and continues: “Of course, there are also economic aspects: there are more at the men’s World Cup Viewers on TV and in the stadiums. And the more money you earn, the more you can spend – including on bonuses.”

Nevertheless, the 23-year-old adds with a smile in relation to a premium adjustment: “It’s not a problem for me to add to that. I’m not someone who says: ‘No, definitely not. ‘” But – as mentioned – you always have to be the current one -See condition.

The development of women’s football

Nmecha, who was in the squad for all internationals this year and was trained by Manchester City when he was young, is following the matter closely. He always goes to games of the Wolfsburg women’s team, which became German champions a few weeks ago.

“In general, women’s football has become more and more professional in recent years. I’ve been following that on site since my time at ManCity, and here in Wolfsburg we have the best women’s team in Germany at the moment,” said Nmecha. “The enthusiasm is growing, you could see that in our women’s Champions League game against FC Barcelona (in the semi-finals, editor’s note), which many of us watched live.” The level in the German Bundesliga is also getting better and better.

A few years ago things looked a little different. Nmecha has an anecdote ready: “When I was young at Manchester City, when I played in the U14s, we played against the women’s senior team. After 20 minutes we were already clearly ahead,” reveals the 23-year-old. “That would certainly not be the case today because the level has risen significantly,” he adds.

Nmecha sees a rapid development in women’s football not only in sport, but also in the media. In this context, the documentary “Born for this”, co-financed by the DFB, caused a stir, for which the team was accompanied by national coach Voss-Tecklenburg for several months – and at times provided very intensive and emotional insights into his inner life. Some of the players were even seen crying.
