No one at all knows the star in Stars on the Canvas

Are they allowed to portray Herman Finkers? Or perhaps Wibi Soerjadi? The artists speculated about it yesterday in Stars on the Canvas. And then they get Johanna ter Steege… “WHO?!”

It is an honorable job for artists: participating in Stars on the Canvas. After all, it is one of the largest stages you can get as a visual artist. When you finally stand behind your easel with two colleagues from the industry with a TV camera on your nose, you naturally hope to be presented with a big A star.

‘Live near here’

Unfortunately for the three chosen artists in the last night’s episode things turned out just a little differently. Presenter Özcan Akyol received none other than… Johanna ter Steege, known from De Beentjes van Sint-Hildegard, in a beautiful farm in Twente. The 62-year-old actress has her own Wikipedia page and a profile on IMDb.

Why does the entire company settle in Twente? It is Johanna’s birthplace. “I live nearby and that is actually home territory for me,” artist Renske responds enthusiastically.

Johan Nijenhuis?

Özcan thinks that this Renske might know who the person portrayed is. “I think you are familiar with people who could potentially be invited to this program.”

She then says: “Well, I googled, because I don’t know very many people from the area, but I thought about Johan Nijenhuis. That’s Costa’s director. A filmmaker. It doesn’t really matter to me who it is.”

Herman or Wibi?

Fellow artist Frank also doesn’t know who will sit in front of him. “I actually have no idea. I thought of Jorien ter Mors, who is a skater. Other than that, I really don’t know.”

And what about the third artist, Ellen? “I did some Googling and found Herman Finkers and Wibi Soerjadi. He also lives around here. Those are the two names that make me think: maybe.”

‘I do not know her’

Then Johanna ter Steege walks into the room. The artists look at her as if someone from the crew has accidentally lost their way. “I’m trying to bring her face home. Hello,” says Renske.

Ellen: “No, I don’t know her, sorry.”

Özcan: “This is Johanna ter Steege.”

Frank: “And you are?”

Johanna: “Actress. By profession.”

Ouch. This must be the common nightmare of many ‘celebrities’…
