During the search for the free-roaming big cat in Berlin and Brandenburg, there were no new clues during the night.

This was announced by the Berlin and Brandenburg police situation centers early on Friday morning. Accordingly, neither further sightings of witnesses nor traces of the animal were reported or found during the night. The search continues on Friday. “Around 7 a.m., the search measures should start properly again,” said a spokesman for the Brandenburg police. According to the mayor of Kleinmachnow, Michael Grubert, professional animal trackers should then also be used.

sightings in Berlin?

By nightfall, a drone team from the DLRG had searched the Düppel dog run area on the Königsweg in the direction of the Zehlendorf/Dreilinden motorway triangle using a special drone with a thermal imaging camera. The experienced volunteers were supported by hunters and officials from a group of hundreds.

In the late evening, a thermal imaging signature pointed to a larger wild animal. However, the hunters were able to give the all-clear quickly: it was just an exceptionally large fox.

After the search for the drone was stopped, the hunters drove on several forest paths. The search was then interrupted when it got dark, or only one hundred officers patrolled the surrounding area with their vehicles. The lioness could not be found until morning.

Riot since Wednesday night

On the night of Thursday, a free-roaming big cat is said to have been sighted in Kleinmachnow in Brandenburg on the border with Berlin. A few seconds of cell phone video from a witness shows an animal sneaking around between bushes and trees. The investigating authorities consider the video to be genuine. According to the information, police officers had also seen the big cat “secured”, said a spokeswoman for the authorities.
