No new caravan camps in Alkmaar, the municipality is expanding existing locations

The municipality of Alkmaar will not build additional caravan camps to create additional pitches. In addition to the Vroonermeer Triangle, the arrows are now aimed at Bestevaerstraat and Picassolaan. “Locations where there are already stands and where there are opportunities for expansion.”

No pitches have been added in Alkmaar in the past 35 years, meaning that a large group of caravan residents has been on a waiting list for more than 20 years. The municipality announced earlier in March five ‘promising’ locations in mind to have.

After an exploratory study, the municipality has decided for now ‘not to create pitches at locations where there are no caravan pitches yet’. This means that the locations at Herenweg 28-30, Stalpaertstraat 3, Saskerstraat (tennis courts) and Over de Leij in Schermerhorn are closed.

“In addition to the already planned addition of pitches on the Vroonermeer Triangle, the two existing caravan locations are being further investigated for expansion, in order to make family living possible again,” councilor Jasper Nieuwenhuizen explains in a letter to the municipal council.

Expansion of the camp on Bestevaerstraat was previously not on the list of possibilities. “New developments have meant that expansion there is an option in the long term. If there is sufficient space in combination with the renovated Spinaker. And possibly in combination with the expertise center.” This location is now being further investigated. If the results are positive, the councilor says he can quickly start with “participation and preparation for the spatial procedures”.

Information meeting

Residents of Bestevaerstraat will soon receive an invitation to an information meeting. The Picassolaan location, on Mondriaanstraat, is part of a larger area development. “A possible expansion of stands at this location will be included in the participation process for the entire development.” These local residents will receive more information at a later date, the municipality said.
