No mouth masks at school: “Breathe a sigh of relief”

“Feel much freer”

A practical lesson in the second secondary school of the VTI in Tielt. Finally no more mouth masks here either.

“I’m happy, some days I forget that and then I have to ask someone”says student Jorben Callens.

Robbe Malfait : “I feel much freer and I also enjoy seeing my classmates’ faces.”

And not only the students are relieved today.

“I have to be honest”, says teacher Mirella Vanmeenen. “In the lesson itself I sometimes found it annoying in connection with understanding students and also when there was talk in class, I found it annoying that you didn’t always know who it was.”

VTI director Charlotte Strobbe: “It was difficult, even if you had to make new contacts. Or new teachers came along, then you didn’t have enough image to get to know them fully.”

Not completely gone

Please note, if you still want to wear a mouth mask, you can and can do that. Some have a good reason for that.

“Corona is still not out of the country, and there are many people in my family who can become infected, so I consciously wear a mouth mask. Just for safety”, says Dymayro Verstraete.

And the dynamics in the dining room are also completely different. Students no longer have to sit at a distance from each other.

“That is much more fun because if you have to sit so far from each other, you have to shout a lot more. We are very happy that we can sit together normally again”, says Robbe Claerhout.
