‘No more support for crisis relief in the region,’ says Dijsselbloem

The Eindhoven region is no longer interested in receiving asylum seekers. The support is gone and that is why the crisis shelter is closed. That is what the responsible State Secretary Eric van der Burg said in a debate in the House of Representatives. He quoted from a conversation he had with Jeroen Dijsselbloem. As mayor of Eindhoven, he also leads the regional consultation.

“What I am dealing with is that I received a call last week from mayor Dijsselbloem of Eindhoven. He said: ‘There will be no more crisis emergency shelters in the Eindhoven region and I will close that crisis emergency shelter next week,'” said State Secretary Eric van der Burg.

“There is no longer any support for realizing crisis emergency shelter,” Dijsselbloem is said to have said. The statements are remarkable, because the region has not yet officially expressed a position on the reception of asylum seekers.

In a reaction, the mayor of Eindhoven says that the State Secretary has taken his words out of context. There is indeed talk of closing the emergency shelter in Someren, but the fact that there would be no support, according to the mayor, only applies to the crisis shelter and not to asylum seekers in general.

“We have to get out of the crisis mode and look for structural solutions.”

“The crisis shelter in Someren has been open for three months longer at the request of the State Secretary and was closed on March 1 as agreed. We have to get out of the crisis mode and look for long-term solutions to receive asylum seekers in the Eindhoven region,” says the mayor. Dijssel flower. He responds as chairman of the security region.

Soon, the 21 municipalities around Eindhoven hope to come up with a ‘regional reception plan’ to structurally arrange the reception of asylum seekers. The mayors say that there is no longer any administrative support for crisis relief because there is no longer a crisis, but a situation that will last longer.
