No more new contracts for 500 temporary employees at Daikin
There are also consequences for permanent employees. They are more likely to be technically unemployed. The unions are now negotiating with management to keep as many employees as possible employed.
Due to a rising demand in Europe for heat boilers and air conditioning systems, many additional employees have been attracted to Daikin in Ostend in recent years. Last year, an additional production line for heat boilers was put into use, creating 100 additional jobs. But because premiums for such devices have been abolished in some European countries, sales have fallen sharply and the stock in Ostend is high. As a result, less has to be produced.
The contracts of approximately 500 temporary employees will therefore not be extended. Permanent workers should stamp more often until the end of the year.
The trade unions at Daikin are currently meeting with management to request clarity for the affected employees and the future of the company.
