Heesen Yachts, the manufacturer of luxury yachts from Oss, can no longer obtain new equipment to build yachts. This is because there are sanctions against Russian owner Vagit Alekperov. Because Alekperov is on the sanctions list of Australia and the United Kingdom, the British engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce will no longer supply the company.
Russian billionaire Alekperov is one of the three so-called ultimate beneficial owners of Heesen Yachts. That is, he ultimately has control over the company.
summary proceedings
At the end of last month, the company tried to get rid of the Russian, so the sanctions would be avoided. To speed things up, Heesen wanted to transfer all the shares of the Russian into a new foundation.
That failed because an Amsterdam notary office does not want to cooperate. After summary proceedings, the judge ruled in favor of the notary’s office. Heesen is therefore still attached to Alekperov.
And that means that Heesen can hardly get new equipment to build their yachts. “Some of our suppliers are bound by UK laws, which means that some of them cannot meet their obligations,” a company spokeswoman said.
Friend of Putin
Alekperov was formerly Deputy Minister for Oil in the Soviet Union and made a fortune with the oil company Lukoil he founded. Recently, the businessman stepped down as CEO of the company. He is also seen as a friend of Putin.
The company in Oss employs about a thousand people.
