No more drinking water from 2 West Flemish water basins due to pesticides
This is what VRT Nieuws says and has also been confirmed to our editors. This concerns water from the Blankaart in Diksmuide and Verdronken Weide in Ypres.
Measurements by the Flemish Environment Agency and the Water Group show that there are too many herbicides and pesticides in the water, which are mainly used by agriculture. One specific weed killer from pea and bean cultivation causes the biggest problems. De Watergroep emphasizes that the drinking water supply in our province will not be compromised. The quality of the drinking water that comes out of the tap is also guaranteed.
