The Japanese cherry blossom is the crowd puller of the Amsterdam forest these weeks. A big contrast with recent years is that there are no matrix signs asking visitors to come back at a later time because of the crowds.
Because the blossom park was visited so massively in the corona spring of 2020 despite the lockdown that it was impossible to to comply with the corona measures, was put in place last year. For example, a maximum of 150 people were allowed to stay in the park at the same time and the visit was limited to half an hour if there was too much enthusiasm.
“No rules, no measures, just nice to each his own, freedom, happiness,” says a visitor who, like many others, sits on a rug between the trees. “Great to see that this is possible again after two years.”
Still too busy
Yet it can also be too busy without corona measures, says a woman with a Brabant accent. In the hope of avoiding the crowds, she came to the forest especially this Monday, she says. She’s cheated. “The weather is nice, so it’s nice and full,” she says in front of the camera of media partner AAN! Amstelveen.
The weather seems to be in favor of the blossom this year. If the weather is nice, the trees will bloom for a few weeks. In bad weather, that period is often shorter.
