No Larifari – Why does a woman take part in “Bachelor”?

BZ editor Larissa Hoppe wonders why women take part in the RTL dome format “Der Bachelor” at all – and asked one of the candidates about it.

It starts again on Wednesday – the “Bachelor”, a dome show on RTL. 22 women compete for the heart of a man, this year for Dominik Stuckmann (29).

Anyone who is familiar with the format knows that dating at eye level cannot take place at all. And: Cat wars are guaranteed in the villa. There is buckets of malice and mockery via social media.

Why do women do this to themselves? Demand for this year’s Berlin candidate.

First for those who don’t know the show: The bachelor has a choice. For a few weeks he can get to know the women at pony rides, dinner or a helicopter flight and gradually weed out the ones he didn’t like.

The candidates, caught in the competition of prom dresses, often pull at each other until the scraps fly. And why all the stress? So that they can get a cut flower from the alleged guy of guys and get one more round.

For the audience, myself included, the theater is entertaining. But why exactly is a woman taking part?

Valeria (22), born in Mexico, has lived in Germany for two years and is studying in Berlin. She tells me, “I thought that was funny, why not? There are really handsome men in Berlin and that didn’t work out. This is a challenge, get out of the comfort zone. And I was able to improve my German.”

Keyword “handsome men” – what does your dream man have to be like? Sincere, funny, sensitive and ready for parental leave?

So half. Valeria (measures 1.57): “Taller than me, which is not so difficult. Dear. And he should be a family man. It is also important that it is not boring, so no couch potato. And then he should be romantic.”

So far, so playful. But the fact that ruffled females, who are always friendly and willing towards men, go head-to-head in bikini battles seems outdated since the first season in view of the broad debates on equal rights.

And what’s it like when you’re one of many and the bachelor can pick you out? Don’t you feel devalued?

Valeria: “Usually I always decide whether I want a man or not. I’ve never gotten a basket. So this time it was something completely new. That’s good and on the other hand not so good. Because you have a lot of thoughts: How is it going, what should I do?” In addition, the other women are so pretty.

Nevertheless, the Berliner says: “I think the bachelor’s is a good format. It’s real and there’s a lot of work behind it. And if people don’t like it, then they shouldn’t watch it.”

I like it, so I’m in. Every Wednesday at 8:15 p.m.
