From 1 November, households with a collective income of up to 45,014 euros per year will not have to pay interest on a loan from the National Heat Fund to make their owner-occupied home more sustainable. This Energy Savings Loan with 0% interest is one of the measures to accelerate sustainability and help reduce energy bills.

Minister De Jonge: “We know that every euro you spend on sustainability pays for itself. But many people don’t have that money. That is precisely why an interest-free loan from the Warmtefonds is a godsend. This offer helps families to reduce their energy bills. Especially because you can combine it with other measures to make sustainability cheaper and simpler.”

For several energy-saving measures, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency subsidizes approximately 30% of the costs. Municipalities also receive money from the National Insulation Program to inform residents as well as possible and to help them with energy-saving solutions. When purchasing solar panels, homeowners receive a refund of their VAT paid.

The Heat Fund is an initiative of the national government. Lenders such as banks participate in the financing of the fund. In recent years it has grown into a fund that stimulates the sustainability of homes of owner-occupiers and Owners’ Associations on a large scale. The fund helps these target groups with low-threshold financing options.

The reduced interest rate for people who earn less than EUR 45,014 per year will remain for at least 2 years, after which it will be evaluated whether the measure is needed for longer. The normal possibilities for tax deduction of income tax apply to the interest for other home owners.
