Residents of the Zaan nursing home Oostergouw were evacuated from their rooms last night after a fire outside the building. The fire raged in garden furniture and the smoke entered the nursing home on Koningin Julianaweg. No one was injured, but two staff members of the nursing home are being checked at the hospital because they have inhaled smoke.
In total, about 40 people were removed from their rooms. The residents have been taken care of in the restaurant on another wing. According to the reporter on the scene, the situation appears to be under control. Firefighters break windows to allow residual smoke to escape.
Lots of firefighters
The fire brigade has been turned out with a large number of personnel. This is because it concerns a nursing home, and people are not self-reliant. According to the security region, therefore, ‘many hands are needed’.
