No garbage is collected, but the streets are swept during carnival

The municipality of Den Bosch and waste processor Cure warn residents that no waste will be collected in the next two weeks. The streets are kept clean, even during carnival. “This falls under a different department and it dumps its waste somewhere else,” says municipal spokesperson André Bongers.

All household waste, green waste, plastic and paper come together in the Treurenburg transfer hall. This has been closed since Friday because, according to the labor inspectorate, it is unsafe. There are too many garbage trucks, shovels and crane trucks there, creating dangerous situations. The hall will remain closed for two weeks and during that time the municipality must come up with a solution so that the storage can open again. Until then, no waste will be collected.

Clean streets
Carnival falls during this period when garbage collection services are forced to stop. This does not apply to the cleaning services that keep the streets clean. They drive directly to the waste processing companies where they can dispose of their waste. “These are commercial services that have different contracts than municipal waste collectors,” the municipal spokesperson explains.

Every year during carnival, thousands of tons of dirt are removed from the streets of Brabant. For example, at least 800 tons are collected in the city center of Breda alone. The garbage collectors often start at five in the morning to get the streets back in order well before the first revelers.

This is how Den Bosch will keep the city center clean again this year:
