No farmer’s protest, but slow action on A9: turtle plucked from hard shoulder

With farmers’ protests fresh in their minds, motorists know all too well how much delay tractors can cause. Nevertheless, a slow action on the A9 last Sunday hardly caused any delay: a turtle bravely stepped over the hard shoulder, after which he was removed from the asphalt by an observant motorist.

Fortunately, the turtle was walking close to a gas station with an appropriate name: the Shell. The driver then knocked on the door for help. An employee present immediately alerted the Animal Ambulance. They picked up the animal at the gas station.

A colleague of the man emphasizes to NH Nieuws that this could have resulted in dangerous situations, but thinks it is nice that the motorist has cared about the well-being of the turtle. “You can’t let a turtle walk on a highway,” is her response.

Employees of Dierenambulance de Ronde Venen / Amstelland are relieved. “Fortunately, the turtle was found in time, although its shell is hard, it probably would not have survived a car,” they said in a comment on Facebook.
