No elevators in Waregem station before 2032
“A shame, I’m very angry”
According to the City of Waregem, NMBS had promised to carry out the adaptation works last year. That didn’t happen. The fact that Waregem will not be a priority in the next ten years is met with disbelief.
The city of Waregem heard the news on Thursday during a roadshow organized by the NMBS. It goes down the wrong way with mayor Kurt Vanryckeghem (CD&V): “We have written a very angry and indignant letter from the city. Both to the CEO of the NMBS and to the Minister of Mobility, to complain that we have been asking for an accessible station in Waregem for years now, and have still not obtained it. In 2023, this can no longer be justified for our people with a disability, for our elderly people, for our less mobile people, for people with a buggy, people who go to Zaventem with their suitcase, etc. It is a shame that it not possible here, in a city, in a station where there are more than 2,000 passengers a day. You are angry, aren’t you? I am very angry, yes.”
