No doubts about the EM ticket: handball players want to win

Hennef (dpa) – Before the decisive game against Greece, the German handball players have no doubts about qualifying for the European Championship.

With a win on Thursday (7.30 p.m.) against the outsider, the DHB selection would secure the ticket for the European Championships in November in Slovenia, Montenegro and North Macedonia. “All in all, it’s clear that we’re the favorites and that we want to win the game – and we want to win it,” said captain Alina Grijseels. “The focus is not so much on the Greeks as on our quality.”

The Borussia Dortmund backcourt player has had a good impression of the new national coach Markus Gaugisch, who will make his debut on Thursday. “The performance was very positive, very open,” said the 26-year-old. “He clearly presented his concept and what he wants to build on.” Gaugisch, who also works as a club coach for Bundesliga leaders SG BBM Bietigheim, is Henk Groener’s successor. The Dutchman had not wanted to extend his expiring contract.
