No concrete beach path in De Panne for the time being
De Panne had built a walking building in the beach, in wood, when we had to keep our distance during the corona pandemic and were not allowed to cross each other. For example, there was one-way traffic, in the opposite direction of the walking direction on the seawall.
The path turned out to be a success, and the municipality decided last year to construct the path more sustainably in concrete, and also to make it more maintenance-friendly. It had to give beachgoers the feeling of wood.
“Too bad for less mobile people”
But after De Panne applied for an environmental permit, an appeal procedure was started. A verdict can still take months, so the municipality does not want to take any risks. The municipality wants to build the path as soon as all legal obstacles have been removed. “It is especially unfortunate for less mobile people who were finally able to get on the road in an accessible way,” says alderman Wim Janssens.
