No cash register for Peter Gillis in Valkenburg for a while: city campsite closed by last municipality | Inland

This is done at the behest of the municipality because Gillis does not have an operating permit.

The Oostappen Group bought the city camping site in November last year and took bookings from 24 February. More than a week later, enforcers were on the doorstep. “Then you can talk like Brugman, but we still had to close,” says Gillis. Guests were sent home on Monday.

Cleared

The enforcers’ campsite should have been vacated that day. According to mayor Daan Prevoo, the owner has been pointed out several times since November that a permit is required.

The park is fully booked for the weekend of the Amstel Gold Race and the Easter weekend. Enforcers also already saw bookings for August in the agenda. Gillis hopes that it can open again at the beginning of April. Prevoo considers that chance small. The normal turnaround time is eight weeks. This applies to the operator of the Polfermolen, of which the municipality itself is an interested party, so also for Mr Gillis.” If the campsite still opens without a permit, the municipality can even replace locks with administrative coercion, says Prevoo.

A license application was submitted on Tuesday by a different company than the one Gillis was previously active with in Valkenburg.

The municipal conditions for operating licenses state that applicants can also be subject to a so-called Bibob test. With such a test, the municipality checks whether there is a risk that an operator will launder criminal money. If the outcome is negative, a permit may be refused. Prevoo cannot say whether such a test will also be applied to the not undisputed Gillis.
